Food was really amazing and fresh and also as I am allergic to sesame seed they were very mindful and prepare dishes accordingly.their Tofu dishes were so good and spicy. Also they have vegetarian options as well . My team manager Jasmine took us over there as we accomplished milestone for our team(premier Financial Alliances) an insurance company . I highly recommend it if you like authentic Chinese food .

Chef Tan is one of my favorite restaurants. I've been coming here since 3 years ago and their service and food is always so exceptional. They recently went through a renovation which made the space bigger and better. They now have more seating available and also a group room. We always get the same dish when we come here, but also sometimes explore. Our all time favorites are; Sautéed Pig Intestines in Hot chili oil - always crispy, the perfect spice and heat. Hearing that crunch just makes you want to eat more. Second, Shrimp ball with salted egg yolk - i don't know why but to me this dish is very comforting. It's crispy on the outside but very juicy on the inside. The shrimp is always cooked perfectly. They coat it in salted egg yolk which compliments the shrimp really well. I also love eating the shrimp chips that it comes with. Lastly, Wontons in Hot chili oil - be careful cause this for sure will burn your tongue because of how hot the meat inside the wonton is. Again, perfectly cooked. The wonton skin and meat ratio is perfect for me. We also use the chili oil to put over our rice and it makes our rice so flavorful. Overall, I don't think anything is going to stop me from ever coming back here. I've celebrated my boyfriend and I's anniversary here for the last 3 years and this place is always so dear to us. We are for sure coming back soon!

First time. Really good food. A slightly more upscale and chef inspired take than some of the surrounding places, with slightly higher prices to match, but still feels like a bargain compared to nyc. Griddled Preserved pork with smoked bamboo was great. Salty, spicy. The preserved pork is like bacon and the bamboo is thin and crunchy. The ribs were fantastic. Tender. Cumin. Chilies. I’d want to make a version but add more chili powder and cumin on top with maybe some fried garlic. Spicy wontons - wontons themselves are great. Slippery. Plump. But that sauce is soooo good. I want to know how they get that garlic flavor in there. Mustard greens with garlic were a good compliment to round it out. Nothing crazy but I enjoyed having a different green than I’m used to and found the slight bitterness pleasant. I found the spice level to be present but not overwhelming. I’d actually ask for spicier next time. dishes were 1 or 2 chilies out of 3. Will be back to try more of the menu. I probably should have ordered something with some acidity since everything is rich, salty, garlicy, and spicy. Or maybe a steamed dish to add some lightness. Seems like the type of place where everything is good so enjoy the Hunan and Sichuan food.

Food is always delicious! We always order the Peking Duck ahead of time. We had the delicious duck, skillet fish, lotus root, shrimp fried rice, and dan dan noodles. Everything was cooked to our liking, not too spicy! BYOB. We had a 6:30 reservation, every table was filled on a Friday night. The duck is better than at Peking Duck NYC. Servers are really nice. Thank you!

Absolutely the most authentic Chinese food. I’ve tried so far in America. I loved the dishes here. We ordered so much food we could barely finish everything. While I would say the serving portions aren’t a lot it is still so worth it. The desserts were amazing too. My favorite is the rice 年糕. This place is a solid 10/10 if I lived in the area, I would definitely eat here every week. The 包菜 was so good; my friend and I finished the plate clean. The chicken we got was perfect too so crispy, spicy and just the right seasonings. There is streetside parking and it is free if you plan on coming here. The design of the restaurant is very nice as well a lot of cultural decorations here and there. Overall, good vibes. The waiters do seem pretty busy so you won’t be getting amazing service, but the food is so worth it.

Amazing authentic Chinese cuisine at Chef Tan! Beautiful restaurant that puts a lot of care into its design. We ordered the pork belly with garlic sauce, griddle Chiba tofu with pork, and the Chef Tan broiled sea bass. Everything tasted great, especially if you like it spicy. The service was excellent, very kind and food came out quickly. Definitely recommend!

With so few Hunanese options in my area, I jumped at my friend's suggestion to try Chef Tan in Raritan! The food arrived piping hot, and though Hunan cuisine is known for spice, our mild dishes were perfectly executed, still bursting with garlic, ginger, and meaty flavors. We enjoyed scallion pancakes, steamed perch (my friend's favorite!), bamboo shoots with broccoli, and a wonderfully garlicky, brothy "stir-fried lettuce" (likely gai lan) that I loved. The staff were courteous and kept our water full, providing the same attentive care to a large family nearby. I was really struck by the stylish, moody interior—a contrast to the homey Hunanese spot I grew up with. Chef Tan felt elevated, perfect for a birthday dinner or a family-style meal with friends.
